27 minutes and 16 seconds
Here it is, the Sockets Summer Mix for 2009. Freshly cut for car stereos, pool parties, or humid DC summer days. Although it's only 27 minutes, we didn't need to cut any fat.
Maxmillion Dunbar, aka Andrew Field Pickering from
Food For Animals, sent over a special edit of "Loveloop" and it felt right to start things off with this cosmic, laid back jam. After heading into the studio with the one and only
Cornel West,
the Cornel West Theory immediately emailed one of their newly mixed tracks from the band's forthcoming album
Second Rome and it's an amazing harbinger of things to come.
Hume's Brit Powell just arrived in DC and is ready to unleash some more of his talented take on experimental pop music. "Wise Light Born" was featured on an amazing
All Our Noise live session, and this is the studio recording from a new EP, which is available over at
Ruffian Records for download.
Big Gold Belt is one of our favorite new bands and "Sleep In" is a track from early recordings the band put out themselves. Sockets and DC's
Mud Memory will be releasing a new Big Gold Belt 12" by the end of this summer or early Fall, which we're really excited about.
The Fly Girlz are blowing up and "Tired" is one of standout tracks from their debut on Sockets entitled
Da'Brats from Da'Ville released earlier this year.
Framed Mistake is Luke Wyatt's (
Team Filo, Big Gold Belt, Slim Castle) new project and is further proof of his diverse tastes informing a wholly unique sound. Ending things is a beautiful acoustic piece from the inscrutable
Chris Grier who will be releasing a vinyl LP on Sockets in the very near future.
I hope you enjoy this collection of songs and sounds. If you like what you hear, please check out the artists' websites and support their music.
